RHS cancels prom due to virus concernApr 2, 2020 From staff reports
Riverton High School's prom has been cancelled for this year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, superintendent Terry Snyder announced Thursday.
He said his decision was based on health care guidelines put in place to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
"The district does not anticipate significant changes in the health care guidelines that are presently in place," he said. "As a result, the 2020 prom at Riverton High School is now cancelled."
He said RHS still is committed to hosting "some type of high school graduation celebration," however.
"High school graduation is a culminating event that celebrates 13 years of hard work and success," Snyder said. "We will develop a plan based on health care guidelines."
He noted that the celebration "will most likely not look like our traditional graduation ceremony in any way," though it will take place Sunday, May 17, as originally scheduled.
Additional information will be forthcoming.
