Day in the Park, Chalk the Walk, Balloon Block on Rendezvous slate

Jul 11, 2018 From Ranger staff reports

The 38th annual Riverton Rendezvous summer festival picks up speed this week and next, with many community favorites arriving on the schedule of events.

Balloon Block

With the 1838 Rendezvous encampment and Wyoming Modelers Park fly-in complete, next up is the Balloon Block Treasure Hunt, beginning Thursday, July 12. A block of old-fashioned newspaper type is hidden somewhere in or around Riverton. Clues drawing searchers closer to the hiding place are published daily in The Ranger, with seven clues possible.

The finder of the clue wins $150 cash and a ride in a hot-air balloon during the Rendezvous balloon rally July 20-22.

Day in the Park

A cornerstone Rendezvous event is at a different location this year. With the big North Federal Boulevard reconstruction project ongoing, Rendezvous Day in the Park is moving to the Central Wyoming College campus in west Riverton for this year only.

The gathering attracts arts, crafts, food and entertainment exhibitors from around the Rocky Mountain region.

Day in the Park runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at CWC. Admission and parking are free.

Because of a lack of shade on campus compared to City Park, organizers stress the importance of sun protection and hydration. Saturday's weather is predicted to be sunny and hot, with a mid-afternoon high of 94 degrees.

Arts in Action sponsors Day in the Park.

Chalk the Walk

The annual sidewalk art event invites participants of all ages to use chalk to decorate a portion of the sidewalk at the Riverton Branch Library, beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 18.

Live music from the Low Water String Band also is scheduled, along with other diversions.

Prizes are awarded to the top sidewalk artwork. There is no charge to participate. Riverton Friends of the Library is the sponsor.

Following weekend

Rendezvous participants can look forward next week to the balloon rally celebrity speaker July 20, the same night as Rails to Trails Music on the Riverwalk and the Rocky Mountain Car and Bike Show Friday Night Cruise.

The first of two mass balloon launches is Saturday, July 21, with a repeat performance Sunday the 22nd, both from the CWC soccer field on the north edge of campus.

The full car and bike show is later Saturday at CWC's "front lawn," the same site where Day in the Park takes place.

The City of Riverton's fireworks display is Saturday, July 21, at dusk from a site on airport hill.

Watch for more details next week in The Ranger.
