The Riverton Volunteer Fire Department had to extinguish a fire Friday morning near the intersection of North Broadway and Elk Drive when trash being carried by a City of Riverton sanitation truck caught fire. The trash was dumped from the truck into the street, then loaded back in for disposal after the fire was out. Hot ashes from a wood or pellet stove sometimes cause such fires in the winter.
