Four Central Wyoming College Rustlers locked down spots to advance into the championship round of the Rustler Roundup at the Fremont County Fairgrounds.
After rain hit Riverton on Saturday night, the cowboys and cowgirls competed in muddy conditions in the finals on Sunday.
Trevor Scantling of CWC finished fifth in the tie-down competition in 33.7 seconds to lead the way for the Rustlers.
The Rustler Roundup opened the season for the Central Rocky Mountain region.
"The conditions were tough on Sunday," CWC rodeo coach Drew Schrock said. "One thing about it, it's tough for everybody. The kids that made the basic solid runs were the ones that won."
The finals included the top 10 in each event.
"We had a lot of kids who were 12th and 13th and just out of position from coming back," Schrock said.
CWC's Blaine Mathews was in position to challenge for the saddle bronc title after a score of 73 in his first ride of the rodeo.
In the finals, Mathews didn't record a time and ended up seventh overall.
CWC's Tanner Nelson placed seventh in tie-down roping in a time of 10.7. Nelson didn't record a time in the finals.
