Aug 15, 2013 - StaffNelson Richard "Tex" Altsman died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at Wind River Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Riverton. He was 88 years old.
Cremation and private family services have taken place.
Nelson Richard Altsman was born Sept. 20, 1924, in Little Rock, Ark., the son of the late J.W. and Addie Mae Altsman.
He served in the U.S. Navy Pacific Fleet for four years during World War II, aboard U.S.S. Conynghan where he received 10 stars and a WWII Victory Medal.
He married Leona "Toni" Martin on Feb. 28, 1949, in Lordsberg, N.M., and they enjoyed 60 years together.
He spent 10 years working pipeline construction and 28 years with Northwest Pipeline Company, retiring in the spring of 1984 to his small farm in Kinnear where he lived until his death.
He is survived by his daughter, Jeri LeClair; husband Roy and his son Chy LeClair; sister-in-law Frankie Altsman of Delta, Colo.; nephews David Bartlow of Amarillo, Texas, Paul Bartlow of Houston, and C.D. Altsman of Alvin, Texas; and niece Kay (Altsman) Vogt of Amarillo, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona "Toni" Altsman; parents; brothers Charles Altsman and Lee Altsman; and sister Fredia Mae Bartlow.
Services are provided by Wind Dancer Funeral Home.
