Devon makes fortune's best workplace list

Feb 14, 2013 From staff reports

Devon Energy announced it has again been named to Fortune magazine's list of 100 Best Companies to Work For. This marks Devon's sixth straight year to be included on Fortune's prestigious list.

Devon is ranked No. 27, up from No. 28 last year. The company has 5,700 employees, including 3,680 in the United States and 50 in the Riverton area.

"It is our fine employees the people who create our corporate culture who make Devon a great place to work," said John Richels, Devon's president and CEO. "We are pleased and proud Devon Energy has made the Fortune list again this year. We see this as further affirmation of our values. Working as a team, doing the right thing, being a good neighbor; these are shared commitments that contribute to a tremendously rewarding workplace."

"We want to thank our employees for the important part they play in creating a great work environment at Devon," said Bill Skelton, production superintendent for Devon's Riverton field office. "This recognition by Fortune is an important indicator of success for us."

Devon's rank on the Fortune list was based in part on a random, anonymous survey of employees conducted by the Great Place to Work Institute. The survey found that employees find Devon to be a safe and healthy place to work with strong leadership and trust among employees, a sharp focus on performance, a good work/life balance and commitment to community involvement.

The Fortune list is the leading measure of workplace culture in the United States.

Companies on the list generally attract a higher number of qualified job applicants, experience lower turnover rates and consistently outperform major stock indices, according to the Great Place to Work Institute. Devon Energy Corporation is an Oklahoma City-based independent energy company engaged in natural gas and oil exploration. Devon is a leading independent oil and gas producer and is included in the S&P 500 index. For additional information, visit
