Todd E. McKinney died suddenly from natural causes Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at his home on Twin Creek South in Lander. He was 46 years old.
A memorial celebration will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, in the Chapel of Mount Hope, Hudson's Funeral Home, Lander.
Todd Edward McKinney was born Dec. 16, 1966, the son of Tim and Rosanne (Roe) McKinney. He spent his entire life on the family ranch on Twin Creek South in Lander.
He attended Lander schools and graduated from Lander Valley High School in 1985. During his high school years he was active and excelled in both football and Future Farmers of America. He was an all- state football player and was a member of the National FFA Meat Judging Championship team.
After high school he went to Laramie County Community College where he was part of the rodeo team.
Mr. McKinney's passion in life was ranching. Not only did he work on his own family ranch, but he also worked for many other ranches in the state. He started at a very young age working for George Mazet, Bobby Jammerman, Ken Ballard (Yellowstone Ranch), Tom and Ruth Reed and later for Kip and Bonnie Alexander in Cora. He was skilled in all aspects of the ranching operation.
He acquired the skill of operating heavy machinery at a young age, working with his dad and his Grandpa Ed. He also worked for Patrick Construction and later started McKinney Construction.
His family said he was an avid outdoorsman and one of his greatest joys was hunting; not only for himself but through guiding others. His other life joy was watching old westerns, especially John Wayne.
He is survived by his parents; brother Tim and his wife Jennifer of Cora; nephew Jake McKinney; nieces Jalin McKinney, Brooke Berg and Brittnee Berg; sister Tara Berg and her husband Brett; grandmother Anna Mae (Patik) Roe; aunts Cheryl (Roe) Wilson and her husband Jerry and Kelly McKinney Ravert and her husband Mike; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Walter "Hink" Roe and Ed and Hilda McKinney; aunt Marilyn McKinney Adams; and mentors Bob Jammerman, Joe Patrick and Tom Reed Sr.
