Jan 9, 2013 - StaffRobert "Bob" L. Weitzel, formerly of Riverton, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at his home in Harlingen, Texas. He was 73 years old.
Services were Monday, Jan. 7, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Harlingen, Texas.
Robert Lee Weitzel was born Jan. 26, 1939, in Gering, Neb.
He served 10 years in the U.S. Army and Air Force. He was stationed in numerous U.S. locations and in Italy, France and Germany.
He met his wife, Trudy, while in Germany.
In 1968, they moved to Riverton where they raised their three children and made their home and careers.
Mr. Weitzel worked for Amoco for 20 years.
After he retired, he and his wife enjoyed traveling in their RV, which led them to Harlingen, Texas, in 1998.
Mr. Weitzel dedicated much of his adult life to ministry, taught Sunday School and participated in Bible studies and the worship team.
His family said he enjoyed outdoor activities, camping, boating, fishing and hunting, and he enjoyed spending time with his wife, family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Trudy; children Robert, Heidi and Kristin; six grandchildren; five sisters; and one brother.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
