Dec 19, 2012 - StaffTommie L. Romero, of Gillette, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette. He was 53 years old.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, with Catholic clergy officiating. Interment will follow at Arapahoe Catholic Cemetery. A rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at Davis Funeral Home.
Tommie Lee Romero was born May 23, 1959, in Riverton, the son of Joe Dan Romero and Mary L. (Duran) Romero. He grew up in Riverton and graduated from Riverton High School in 1977.
He started his career at Gas Hills as a heavy equipment operator and worked in Utah, California and Rock Springs. He had lived in Gillette for seven years. He was employed by Cloudy Peaks Energy.
Mr. Romero was a baptized and confirmed Catholic.
His family said he enjoyed reading books, watching sports, exercising, running, and seeing and taking care of family. His family said he had many friends in the AA chapter in Gillette.
He is survived by his parents, Mary and Jack Herrera; brother Danny Romero and his children Juliet, Jacque and Rachel; sisters Joann White and her children Brandon and Amanda, and Elvera Martensen and her daughter Janessa, with whom he was very close; and members of the Whiteplume, Duran, Hanway, Roman, Vigil, Medina, Crispin, Armajo and Ortiz families.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Dan Romero; and his fiancee, Cindy Pickerington.
