Stores should not be open on Christmas

Dec 19, 2012 Marlene Brower, Riverton

I have just found out that some grocery stores are going to be open on Christmas Day.

I want it to be known that I disagree with the stores being open. It is the only day that those employees get to spend with their families, and I feel the stores should be closed.

There are those out there who say that is not true, that they get to spend Thanksgiving and Fourth of July, etc., with their families because they all don't work. That may be true, but I know that some of those employees don't get any of those days off and I feel that Christmas should be left alone and that these people need to be with their families.

The corporate people and most of the managers will be with their families, but they are going to make their assistant managers and the rest of the employees work. I don't think it is right.

It is a pretty sad day when the almighty dollar decides that a store should be open on Christmas Day. I know there are people out there who don't agree with me and if you are one of them, then I would like to see you leave your family on Christmas Day and go work at one of these stores.

I also feel that if these stores are going to be open that a person from every corporate office should be working in one of their stores as well that day, to give at least one of the employees who would be working the day off.

I hope that there are other people out there that agree with me and will go to the stores and pick up a comment or suggestion card and let them know how you feel.

When I was a kid, the stores were closed every major holiday, and that is not the case any more. The only day they were closed was Christmas, and I feel it should stay that way.

Thank you for reading this, and I hope I have the support of the public.
