Nov 16, 2012 - By Alejandra Silva, Staff WriterThe dreaded Christmas shopping season has begun, and as winter weather rolls into the county, art and craft fairs may help residents finish all their gift-buying in one weekend.
The Arts in Action Winter Art Fair is an annual event where local vendors sell a variety of handmade items, baked goods and candles. The fair is in its 41st year, and proceeds from ticket sales go toward Arts and Action programs and scholarships. The fair is in the Fremont Center at the Fremont County Fairgrounds in Riverton. Also at the fairgrounds this weekend is the Winter Craft Fair. It will be at the Heritage Hall, and there's no cost to enter.
Both fairs run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Craft Fair requires no entrance fee and has a few new vendors, said organizer Cerella Overgard. Among the items to be sold in the club room are handmade clothing and accessories, such as scarves, spices and extracts, and cleaning supplies. As of Thursday, the fair had 12 tables reserved, and there is room for more. The fair is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the VFW, 1409 W. Main St. in Riverton.
The Good Shepard Auxiliary Craft and Bake Sale will be selling handmade items 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the school's basement at 419 E. Park St. in Riverton. The proceeds from this fair will go to help people with developmental disabilities.
The St. Margaret's Fall Harvest Bazaar, sponsored by the Riverton Council of Catholic Women, is holding a diverse set of activities Saturday, including a raffle for a queen-sized quilt and a silent auction, and will be selling baked goods, crafts, items from the White Elephant and handmade items for babies from Grandma's Corner. There will also be a Mexican lunch at St. Margaret's gym, 220 N. Seventh St. E. in Riverton.
Another bazaar Saturday is the Senior Center Christmas Bazaar/Bake Sale. The doors open at 9 a.m. at the High Country Senior Citizens center, 504 Hays St. in Dubois. The admission is free, and a lunch will be served.
Everyone is welcome to the Holiday Inn Shopping Expo 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Holiday Inn in Riverton on 900 E. Sunset Drive. For more information, call 857-1613.
December is also booked with art and craft fairs.
The Evergreen Craft Fair will be Dec. 1 at the Fremont County Fairgrounds. For more information, contact Cindy Harris at 850-6538.
The Knights of Columbus Riverton Community Christmas Craft Fair is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at St. Margaret's School, 220 N. Seventh St. E., in Riverton. Vendors can purchase the first table for $25. Additional tables are $15. For more information, call 856-1423.
On Sunday, Dec. 2, the Art in the Afternoon event will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Noble Hotel, 288 Main St. in Lander. Any Lander Art Center members may preview what will be displayed an hour before the doors open to the general public.
Also in December is the Eastern Shoshone Boys and Girls Club Christmas Carnival with an arts and craft fair. It's happening 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at the Boys and Girls Club, 9 Shipton Lane in Fort Washakie. Tables and chairs for arts and crafts booths will be provided. The Last Chance Craft Fair is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 15 at the Holiday Inn, 900 E. Sunset Drive, Riverton.
