Nov 13, 2012 - By Christina George, Staff Writer
An incumbent and two newcomers will join the Fremont County School District 1 Board of Trustees.
Trustee Joe Palladino secured a second four-year term on the Lander board, according to unofficial results with all precincts reporting and absentee ballots counted.
Voters on Nov. 6 also voted Ryan Hedges and Brooke Sutton to join the board.
According to the unofficial results compiled by the Fremont County Clerk's Office, Hedges garnered 3,186 (30.78 percent) of the 10,306 votes cast. Sutton followed with 3,022 votes (29.19 percent). Palladino collected 2,332 votes (22.53 percent).
The fourth candidate, Bruce Knell, secured 1,766 votes, or 17.06 percent.
There were 46 write-ins, according to the unofficial results.
"I am excited to get on board and learn what I need to learn to take over the job and doing what I need to do for our community and our kids," Sutton said. "I appreciate all the people that encouraged me to run, and I would like to thank those who voted for me."
Hedges said he too is excited and humbled to be elected by his peers.
"I look forward to the next four years of working with the other board members in advancing our school districts to one of the top in the state," Hedges said.
This is the first time Hedges and Sutton have run for a school board seat.
Palladino, who was elected in 2008, could not be reached for comment by press time.
Hedges and Sutton will replace trustees John Schumacher and Susan Crane, who announced earlier this year they would not seek re-election after both served one term.
Tuesday's winners will join fellow board members Brett Berg, Dave Clark, Bruce Palmer and Teresa Nirider.
