Robert L. "Bob" May of Riverton died Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at Wind River Health Care.
He was 88 years old.
He had been a resident of the Wyoming Retirement Center in Basin and the Mountain View Living Center at the Sheridan VA for the last two years.
Graveside services were Monday, Oct. 29, at Mountain View Cemetery with military honors.
He was a member of the Warm Valley Baptist Church in Pavillion.
Robert L. May Jr. was born Oct. 6, 1924, in Shawnee, the son of Robert L. May Sr. and Hazel Gertrude (Pickinpaugh).
He grew up near Shawnee on the family ranch and attended and graduated from a one-room schoolhouse.
He was a decorated war veteran and served in the Army during World War II from June 1946 to June 1949.
Mr. May was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge and received a purple heart and two silver stars.
He married Marie Bell Baker March 29, 1947, in Casper.
The couple moved to Riverton in 1965 where they purchased a farm in Missouri Valley. Robert was a stockman, raising registered Rambouillet sheep, Angus cattle and quarter horses.
He also traveled around the state as a wool buyer for North Central Wool Marketing Company for many years.
His family said he enjoyed his time with his family, including his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In his younger years he was an avid elk hunter, and he also enjoyed working his livestock. They said the Fremont County and state fairs were always a highlight for him.
He is survived by his son, David May and his wife Melynda of Big Piney; daughters Twila Meyer and her husband Darrell of Shoshoni, Barbara Miska and her husband Elliott of Riverton, Marilyn Wheeler and her husband Richard of Riverton, and Sharon Crichton and her husband Gary of Riverton; eight grandchildren, Levi and Joshua "Colter" May, Timothy Meyer, Robert Miska, Shantel and Ashley Wheeler, and Gerald and David Crichton; six great-grandchildren, Hailey and Kade Miska, Lane Cole Crichton, McKenzie Crandall, and Emma and Grayce Crichton; and sisters Wyoma May of Olympia, Wash., Edyie Vale of Phoenix, and Genevieve Lawson of Denver.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, on Sept. 20, 2004; parents Robert and Hazel; an infant daughter; two infant granddaughters; one infant great-grandson; three brothers, Kenneth, Don and Vernon May; and two sisters, Nelda Price and Irene Price.
