The way it was: Rival coaches -- 1963Nov 11, 2012 - Staff Fremont County had an election in the odd-numbered year 1963, with mayors elected in both Lander and Riverton, along with voting on medical facilities funding for Dubois, Riverton and Lander. The election was sandwiched between two big sporting events that fall. The first was the Lander-Riverton football game at Tonkin Stadium in Riverton with the North AA conference title on the line. In one of the greet games ever played in the long series between the county rivals, the Tigers and Wolverines played to a 9-9 tie. Later in the month, the annual Fremont County fall sports banquet was held, with coaches, players, parents and fans attending. Film highlights of the big game were shown after dinner. |
