Derick Meeks died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at Denver Children's Hospital in Denver. He was 18 months old.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 at Blue Sky Hall in Ethete. An evening service and wake will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at the Melody Spoonhunter Residence, 89 Gas Hills Road, Riverton. Interment will be in the Chief Washakie Cemetery.

Derick Meeks was born May 5, 2011, in Lander, the son of Derick Meeks Sr. and Stafanie Big Medicine.

His Indian name was Chief Eagle.

His family said he enjoyed dancing whistling, making sounds with his cars, watching TV and cartoons and being outside. They said he was a very smart kid who figured out everything.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Louis Meeks; great-grandparents Dune and Irene Tillman; and uncles Tommy Durgin and Eric Porter.
