John A. Balber, 64, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at his home in Pavillion. According to his wishes cremation has taken place and no service is planned. Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Funeral Home.

John Balber was born Jan. 3, 1948, son of Irwin and Jean (Gross) Balber in Oak Park, Illinois.

He received his bachelor's degree from Illinois State University and his masters in education from the University of Wyoming.

On Aug. 30, 1969, he married Ghent Tyson in Grant Park, Ill. They never had their own children, but as educators they helped raise a large number of children. The couple moved to Wyoming in the early 1970s, fell in love with the state, and never left.

Mr. Balber worked in education, beginning as a teacher and then moving on to administrator and principal. "Kids and education were his life," a family statement said.

He loved sailing and riding his motorcycle. He also enjoyed camping, hiking and cross country skiing. The family said he had a great sense of humor and was a very kind and honest man.

He volunteered for the Help for Health Hospice.

Survivors include his wife, of Pavillion, brother Mike Balber of Illinois, sister Myra (Balber) Hyatt of Kansas, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dan Balber.

Memorials to PAWS would be appreciated in care of Davis Funeral Home of Riverton, theDavisFuneralHome.com.
