'Fremont Fantasia' to open the Fremont County Orchestra's fall concert seasonOct 28, 2012 - From staff reports The Fremont County Orchestra has announced a "Fremont Fantasia" fall concert to open its 26th season at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Lander Valley High School Auditorium. Conductor Rebecca Murdock said the program features selections related to fantasy, including Moussorgsky's "A Night on Bald Mountain." The program also pays homage to the Walt Disney film "Fantasia" as it presents Ponchielli's "Dance of the Hours" that Disney parodied from the opera, "La Gioconda." The prelude to Humperdinck's opera, "Hansel and Gretel" and the John Williams-Alexandre Desplat suite from the film, "Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows" also represent works based on fantasy. The concert also includes Beethoven's "Pastorale" from his only opera, "The Creatures of Prometheus" and the frequently-performed "Adagietto" -- from Mahler's Fifth Symphony -- for strings and harp. Concert tickets -- $10 a person and $20 for a family -- are available at the door. A reception with the orchestra follows the concert and includes refreshments. |
