Oct 19, 2012 - StaffCommunity members are invited to the Pink Ribbon Race 5K Run/Walk fundraiser set for Saturday at Smith's Food and Drug, 1200 W. Main St.
Nicci Urbigkit, WorkWise director at Riverton Memorial Hospital, said the event is unique in that people will know exactly what their donated money is paying for.
"(The funds) will be used to purchase camisoles for patients at our hospitals who have just received mastectomies," Urbigkit said Tuesday during a Riverton City Council meeting.
She explained that the camisoles have been designed to make the recovery process more manageable for patients who have undergone the surgery.
The shirts are designed with pouches that help support the tubes and other medical equipment that may still be attached to a patient's chest.
"And it's more than just physical support that they provide our patients," Urbigkit added.
Registration for the Pink Ribbon event begins at 8 a.m., and the race begins at 9 a.m. Cost to participate is $30, with proceeds going toward the purchase of mastectomy camisoles for breast cancer patients.
"The goal is to give two to every patient so they have one to wash," Urbigkit said.
Runners and walkers will receive a race T-shirt, and prizes are available for all age groups. For more information or to pre-register, call 857-3405 or visit riverton-hospital.com.
