CHEYENNE -- Anybody who doesn't think this is the cutest little news story of the day must be a Klingon. The University of Wyoming's American Heritage Center is holding a "Name the Tribble" contest. A tribble is a small furball of a creature from the Star Trek television series that first appeared in a famous 1967 episode. On the show, tribbles endeared themselves to everybody except Klingons, who despised them. The trouble with tribbles is they're very prolific. They overpopulated the Starship Enterprise. A tribble from the Star Trek set is among many items that science-fiction publisher Forrest Ackerman donated to UW decades ago. The tribble-naming contest commemorates American Archives Month. Entries can be e-mailed to ahc@uwyo.edu, with "Tribble Contest" and your name in the subject line. The deadline is Oct. 22. |
