Flags on Main

Consider making a small donation to the Riverton Avenue of Flags
Everybody who sees downtown Riverton's "Avenue of Flags" on patriotic holidays and other special occasions enjoys the handsome sight of the flags lined up for block after block across much of the city.
And everyone who appreciates is asked to chip in to help pay for it.
The veterans of the VFW and American Legion, who place the dozens of flags around town, have announced their schedule of flag days for the next year. With it comes a modest request for a financial contribution to pay for new and replacement flags and to recognize the veterans who do the work of getting the flags up at dawn and taking them down before sunset.
Here are the days the Avenue of Flags is scheduled to appear in the next 12 months: Nov. 6 (election day), Nov. 11 (Veterans Day), Dec. 7 (Pearl Harbor Day), Feb. 18 (Presidents Day), March 30 (welcoming Wyoming veterans home), May 18 (Armed Forces Day), May 27 (Memorial Day), June 14 (Flag Day), July 4 (Independence Day), July 15 (Rendezvous Day in the Park), July 29 (Fremont County Fair Parade) and Sept. 4 (Labor Day).
Avenue of Flags is a fun, distinctive and often moving exercise for the people of Riverton and those from other places who travel through town. Financial support makes it possible to perform the duties and, thanks to some money left over, to expand the flag area to more of the city.
No donation is too small. The VFW and American Legion routinely accept gifts of $5-$10 from supporters. Larger gifts give an even stronger boost to the program.
