Sep 19, 2012 - StaffRuth D. Schneider died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, at her home on Lyons Valley Road, Lander. She was 93 years old.
A visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, in the Chapel of Mount Hope, Hudson's Funeral Home, Lander. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at Hudson's Funeral Home.
Ruth Denola Cowdin was born May 4, 1919, in her grandmother's home in Hanna.
She grew up on the family ranch, the Lazy Three Six, in Leo. She rode to school on horseback, five miles each way, and she raised her two younger brothers.
She married Bill Schneider on Nov. 19, 1936, in Casper. They lived and worked on various ranches and moved to Lamont in 1943 where she managed the Cresent Café until 1947. They then moved to Lander and bought the 184 Ranch in Lyons Valley. During this time she began working at Safeway, where she worked for 17 years.
After retiring, she and her husband traveled around the country. They especially loved traveling to Arizona.
Her family said she loved to dance and went partying often. She celebrated her 90th birthday party at the VFW Club where she danced on the table. Her grandchildren called her GO GO-Granny.
She is survived by three children, William and his wife Cindy of Lander, Hilda Johnson of Payson, Utah, and Virginia and her husband Dick Christman of Casper; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; great-granddaughter Sunshine Moore; grandson Richard Moore; and her beloved husband, Bill.
