Ronnie "Ron" Schilling Sr., of Riverton, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at his home. He was 70 years old.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at the Davis Funeral Home. Military honors will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton.
Ronnie Schilling was born Sept. 29, 1941, in Prentice, Wis., to Milton and Otilia (Wagner) Schilling. He was raised in the Prentice, Eagle River and Sayner, Wis., areas where he attended schools.
He began his logging career in the Eagle River area after school. He volunteered for the draft at age 20, serving with the Combat Engineers in Germany for 18 months. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army on March 15, 1964.
He married Nancy Buell in St. Germain, Wis. Together they had fours sons. They were later divorced.
Mr. Schilling continued logging after serving in the army. He moved to Big Piney in 1980 to work in the oil fields. He also drove a concrete truck for four years for Joe Mekes, Clarkes Ready Mix and Sublette County Road and Bridge where he ran a rock crusher. He retired from Sublette County in 2004 and moved to Riverton in 2005.
He married Barbara J. (Hayes) on Jan. 1, 2000, at the Chapel in the Pines in Pinedale.
Mr. Schilling was a member of the American Legion and the North American Hunt Club.
His family said he enjoyed family visits, hunting, going to the mountains, cutting and selling wood, tinkering in his shed where he made utility trailers and going to auctions.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Riverton; four sons, Ronnie R. Schilling Jr. and his wife Laurie of Sayner, Wis., Harold and his wife Christine, Wayne and his wife Tracy, Bob Sr. and his wife Kara all of Eagle River, Wis.; stepson Chris Hayes of Rome, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers Milton Schilling and his wife Edna of Daniel and Joe Schilling and his wife Mary of Sayner, Wis.; sisters Beverly Fabian and her husband Fred of Sayner, Wis., Judy Keck of Sayner, Wis., Sally Christian and her husband Artie of Sayner, Wis., Julia Schilling of Eagle River, Wis.; brothers-in-law Arthur Hayes and his wife Judy of Mayfield, N.Y., and Andrew Hayes and his wife Tina of Amsterdam, N.Y.; sisters-in-law Sarah Lea Hayes of Gloversville, N.Y., Jo Ann Frye and her husband Sam of Gloversville, N.Y., Kathy Carentz and her husband Jeff of Mayfield, N.Y., Nancy Bellen and her husband Tom of Mayfield, N.Y., Wilma Cetchum and her husband Joe of Gloversville, N.Y., and Claire Dai and her husband Will of Connecticut.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Otilia.
