This year's county fair parade had a pretty good lineup with quite a lot of floats. I did enjoy it, but I still think it was so very much better when they had it on the last Saturday of the fair, in the morning.
What I remember about that was there were usually quite a few people from the fair who were in the parade. You would see kids with their blue ribbons, and sometimes even the market steer champion would be on a float.
When we were kids, we would stay down at the fair in our camper all week, so by the day of the fair parade we couldn't wait to get out of there for awhile and go see the parade. Everybody had "fair fever." It sure seems as if more people came to the parade then also (I'm talking about the .).
I know times do change, but I never did see the point in moving it to the beginning of the fair after all those years at the end, when it was successful. And as for 6 o'clock at night, it is so hot by then compared to 10 in the morning. This year there was a thunderstorm ready to blow through. That would have ruined half the floats, but it was so hot I almost wish it had come ahead.
I am just a former fair exhibitor, not an official of any kind, but this is how I feel for what it's worth.
