Riverton loses state LL opener to LaramieJul 27, 2017 By Scott Akanewich, Sports Editor
In a game postponed due to weather, the majors all-stars dropped a 13-3 decision to the hosts.
Mother Nature refused to cooperate Wednesday with the Riverton 12-and-under Little League all-stars, as their state tournament opener in Laramie was postponed due to a downpour.
On Thursday morning, it was the host club which refused to play nice during a 13-3 Riverton defeat.
The District 1 champions were never in it from the outset, as Laramie opened an 8-0 lead before Riverton's bats warmed up in the bottom of the fourth.
After a Uriah Hines single in the first, Riverton was held hitless until Garrett Raymond tripled to open the fourth, followed by a Hunter Hauck double that chased Raymond home with its first run of the game.
However, Laramie would answer back with nine runs over the next two frames, and the game was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Dallon Draper drove in Hines and Nathan Hutchison with a double in the bottom of the fifth, but it was far too little, too late.
Draper and Hines each had a pair of hits in the game.
Riverton was relegated to the losers bracket and will next face Cody, which lost 9-8 to Gillette on the other side of the bracket, in an elimination game at 1 p.m. Thursday.
