Jul 20, 2017 - By Scott Akanewich, Sports EditorDallon Draper hit a pair of home runs and Christopher Reinig added an inside-the-park round-tripper in a 16-0 win against Rock Springs.
All home runs are earned.
But, some more than others.
For Dallon Draper on Wednesday during the Riverton majors all-stars opener against Rock Springs at the Wyoming Little League District 1 tournament in Green River, that meant simply blasting a pair of balls over the fence.
However, for Christopher Reinig, it meant speeding around the diamond with the ball in the park while the opposition engaged in a futile effort to cut him down on the basepaths.
Either way, the base-circling exploits of Draper and Reinig and the rest of their teammates led to a dominant 16-0 victory to remain in the winners' bracket as they continue in their quest for a berth at the state tournament in Laramie.
In fact, a seven-run assault in the top of the first inning left Rock Springs not knowing what hit them, as Riverton ran roughshod on the road to victory.
Draper hit two home runs, beginning with a two-run shot in the second, followed up with solo souvenir in the third.
Brodie Dale led off the game with a single, followed by back-to-back doubles off the bats of Reinig and Nathan Hutchison, the second of which drove home the first two runs of the game for a quick 2-0 lead.
Uriah Hines contributed a sacrifice fly to plate Hutchison, then another from Wyatt Frazier before Derrick DeVries and Dale added RBI singles for a 7-0 lead.
From there, Riverton's mound men shut down Rock Springs, allowing only two hits before the game ended after four innings due to the 10-run rule.
Dale started and pitched the first 2 2/3 innings, striking out four in the process, while needing only 36 pitches to do so before Hines and Hutchison each threw two-thirds of an inning of relief to close the game.
Riverton proceeded to score four runs each in the second and third frames, followed by Reinig's inside-the-park homer in the fourth to close out the scoring.
Every Riverton starter hit safely in the contest, with Hutchison leading the way, going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two runs batted in on the game.
Next for Riverton is a second-round matchup with Cody on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
