Morning walker finds Balloon Block; wins cash, ride, tickets

Jul 12, 2017 From staff reports

A Wednesday morning walk turned lucrative for a Riverton woman who found the Riverton Rendezvous Balloon Block.

Skye Marie Coleman-Weisz was walking along South Major Avenue with a friend, Kelli Gard, when she spotted the unusual object along the side of the street.

"At first I thought it might be a piece of a tire or something, Coleman-Weisz. "Then some light hit it ,and I thought 'That's the balloon block!'"

She wins a balloon ride in this weekend's Riverton Rendezvous hot-air balloon rally, $250 from The Ranger, plane tickets for two to Denver, and two field-level seats to a Colorado Rockies baseball game.

The two women often walk together in the morning, but Wednesday was a bit different -- and that difference was key to winning the annual Riverton Rendezvous treasure hunt.

"Usually we meet at the bottom of Major and walk up and down the hill," Gard said. "But I slept in this morning, so we met at my house -- and I live close" to the hiding place.

"So, you're welcome," she said, turning to her friend with a laugh.

Coleman-Weisz said she wasn't looking actively for the Balloon Block, but she had been reading the clues published daily in The Ranger since last week. Four of a possible seven clues had appeared before the block was found.
