Riverton wins Babe Ruth tourneyJul 11, 2017 By Scott Akanewich, Sports Editor
The 15-and-under all-stars finished the weekend with a 10-3 victory against Powell in the championship game.
The Riverton Babe Ruth 15-and-under all-stars lost to Powell by a score of 21-11 Saturday, so when they faced their rivals from the north again in the championship game of the Riverton tournament on Sunday, revenge was on their minds.
Revenge is what they got.
Blake Dale, Kaden DeWitt and Tyler McKiernan all had a pair of hits apiece and Vincent Brown had eight strikeouts on the mound in a 10-3 victory, claiming the crown in the process
Riverton got out early when DeWitt tripled in the top of the first, plating Dale, who had reached on a error.
DeWitt then scored as Powell made another error off the bat of Tryston Truempler, bringing up McKiernan, who singled in another run to make it 3-0 in favor of the home side before even a single out was recorded.
Derick Lange then walked to load the bases, and another free pass issued to Dalten Leach brought home the fourth Riverton run of the frame.
Powell answered with a pair of markers in the bottom of the inning, which were then matched by Riverton in the top of the second.
Dale doubled, DeWitt singled and both scored on sacrifice flies by Brown and Truempler, respectively and it was 6-2.
Riverton scored a run in the fourth for a 7-2 advantage, then added three insurance runs in the sixth to put the game away.
Despite failing to get an official hit, Truempler drove in a pair of runs to lead Riverton.
While DeWitt relieved Brown on the mound for the final 1 1/3 innings without allowing a run.
Next up for Riverton is the state tournament in Casper, where the all-stars open pool play against Newcastle on Wednesday, followed by Casper on Thursday and Douglas on Friday.
