A's defeat D-backs for minors crownJun 30, 2017 By Scott Akanewich, Sports Editor
A four-run first propelled the Green-and-Gold to a 14-0 victory.
The Diamondbacks entered their minors Little League championship game against the A's on a Cinderella run Disney would have been proud, having upset the Angels and Twins on their way to the title game.
However, the top-seeded A's smashed their pumpkin with a decisive 14-0 victory to claim the trophy Thursday at Saban Little League Complex in Riverton.
Kalem Winters and Blake Gantenbein each had a pair of hits, with Justice Kramer adding another in a game which was official after three-and-a-half innings due to the 10-run rule.
The A's jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first inning, as Liam Carruth drew a one-out walk from Diamondbacks starter Neveah Clark, followed by a Gantenbein single and additional free passes to Garrett Jackson, Max Peters and Colter Reinig.
Clark recovered to strike out Alex Jordan to end the inning, but by then the A's had all the runs they would need on the day.
Five more runs in the second inning and another five in the third to make it 14-0, and it was game over.
Gantenbein went the distance on the mound for the A's in gaining the win, as nine different players crossed the plate in the game.
