Giants win majors title

Brodie Dale had 11 strikeouts and Parker DeVries drove in five runs in a 14-2 victory over the Cardinals.

At the halfway point of Thursday's Little League majors championship game at Saban Little League Complex in Riverton, the Cardinals and Giants had battled to a one-run game, with the No. 1 Cards trailing the second-seeded visitors by a 2-1 score.

Starting hurlers Brodie Dale and Hunter Hauck had locked horns in a pitchers duel befitting a title contest through three innings.

However, the Giants broke through in the final three frames, plating an additional 12 runs in a 14-2 victory.

Dale also got it done at the plate, going 3-for-3 with four runs scored, including a double in the first inning. That brought Dallon Draper to the dish, who struck out but reached first on a dropped third strike.

Suddenly, the Giants were in business with only one out and runners on second and third after Draper hustled all the way to second on the play and advanced Dale in the process.

Parker DeVries then stepped in a drove a pitch to left field, chasing home both runners. It was 2-0.

Hauck minimized the early damage by retiring Slade Heidenreich on a grounder after back-to-back bases-on-balls to Jordan Vroman and Gavin Appleby to put men on second and third.

The Cardinals were without Sean Dean Brown and Carter Noseep, who missed the game through other obligations and injury, respectively, robbing the Redlegs of two of their top guns.

Hauck did his fair share and then some to fill the void, going 3-for-3 with a double and a run batted in at the plate to go with eight strikeouts on the mound.

But, even he could only stem the big, orange offensive wave for so long before the dam broke. Only one of the three runs the righty allowed was earned in his three innings of work until his 85 pitches were up.

Garret Neil took the ball from his teammate in the top of the fourth and was greeted by a deluge of hits and runs, as the Giants scored a pair in the fourth, then another six markers in the in the fifth, highlighted by another pair of RBI from DeVries on a shot up the middle. The lead was increased to 10-1, which effectively killed the game off.

The Giants added another four runs in the top of the sixth for good measure.

Dawsen Valerio led off with a triple, followed by a Dale walk and a Draper single. A few batters later, the final margin was provided as Draper stole home.

Now, all that was left was for the Giants to close the deal and Draper was more than happy to oblige, having taken over for Dale on the mound. Dale struck out 11 in 4 2/3 innings of work spanning 88 pitches.

Draper masterfully struck out the side, and victory was complete.

In addition to Dale's and DeVries's three hits apiece, Valerio and Heidenreich each finished 2-for-4 on the day as part of an 11-hit attack.

Hauck ended up with three of the Cardinals' four hits in the game.
