Jun 14, 2017 - By Scott Akanewich, Sports EditorMakayla Seely and Madison Enos will both be in Gillette in July for the competition.
Back in the fall before the first snow fell and long before the last finally melted this spring, thousands of cowboys and cowgirls from around Wyoming dreamed of making it to Gillette for the National High School Finals Rodeo at season's end.
Makayla Seely and Madison Enos have made that dream a reality, as the pair of Riverton cowgirls have both qualified for the annual event next month.
Seely cemented her status with a strong season in which she finished third in the average with a total of 169.50, winning five events in the process, including a top-10 finish at last week's state finals in Rock Springs.
Seely won in Rock Springs earlier in the season, along with victories in Wheatland, Lander, Big Piney and a pair of wins in Casper.
Enos finished third in breakaway roping at the state finals with a time of 2.98 and her season average of 114.50 was good enough to earn an alternate spot on the squad.
Although Enos failed to win an event, she was a consistent performer throughout the campaign, posting seconds in Rock Springs and Sheridan, along with a third in Gillette.
Riverton's Levi Coyle finished state ninth in tie-down roping with a time of 12.80 and fourth in team roping at 12.63.
The National High School Finals Rodeo will be in Gillette on July 14-21.
