Fremont County's finest cowboys and cowgirls wrangled in Rock Springs.

Beginning on Thursday in Rock Springs, cowboys and cowgirls from across Wyoming began their quest for championship belt buckles as the high school state finals rodeo got underway.

Lacy Eckhardt, Lander's lone competitor in the event burst from the gate with a stellar run of 21.647 in the first go-round of pole bending on Thursday morning.

Riverton's contingent included Makayla Seely, who was third in barrel racing after the morning go-round with a time of 17.893, while Elsie Campbell was ninth, with a run of 18.263.

In goat tying, Hannah Smrekar was seventh after the morning run in 11.28.

However, at the end of the first go-round, it was Campbell who was in sixth (8.74), with fellow Riverton cowgirl Madison Enos in seventh (8,78).

Riverton's Levi Coyle was sitting third in tie-down roping after the first go-round at 11.80.

On Friday morning, bull riding began with Riverton's Kaegan Hays scoring a 56.

In breakaway roping, Enos was second in 2.98 seconds, while in goat tying, Enos moved up to fourth at 10.44, with Campbell right behind in fifth at 10.49.

Coyle partnered up with Hailey Hardeman of Rock Springs to post a run of 12.63 in team roping, good for third.

When the dust of Friday's second go-round had settled on the arena floor, Enos was third in breakaway, while Coyle was ninth in tie-down and Seely was eighth in barrels.

Championship go-rounds were scheduled for Saturday.
