Raiders host Powell in conference doubleheader

Jun 8, 2017 - By Scott Akanewich, Sports Editor

Riverton is returning home off a road sweep of league opponent Green River.

Following a victory in their home tournament at Roy Peck Invitational last weekend, the Riverton Raiders journeyed to Green River and disposed of the Knights in an A West conference doubleheader sweep on Monday.

Riverton (9-5, 2-2 A West) is riding a four-game winning streak and returns home for a showdown Friday with another league opponent in the Powell Pioneers. Games are scheduled for 3 and 5 p.m.

Powell (0-16, 0-2 A West) are coming off a pair of losses to Cody's B squad on Tuesday by scores of 6-4 and 7-3.

The Raiders evened their conference mark in Green River after having dropped their opening two league matchups to Cody on May 25.

However, since that double-defeat, Riverton has been a different club, showing a renewed sense of purpose in winning six of its last seven contests.

An explosive offense has carried manager Troy Brown's club, as the Raiders have a .331 batting average with a .477 slugging percentage and an on-base-plus-slugging percentage of .937, averaging 7.3 runs per game in the process.

Riverton has scored 10 or more runs on six different occasions this season, including three on the bounce heading into the games against Powell.

Dalton Baldes is the club's leading hitter at .444, while teammates Alex Fabricus (.439), Dillon Fabricus (.400) and Jaren Draper (.400) are close behind.

Alex Fabricus has been especially deadly with runners in scoring position, leading the club in runs batted in with 15, the result of a .780 slugging rate and an OPS of 1.300, has scored a team-leading 21 runs. He's tied with Brodie Roden for the squad lead in home runs with two.

Dillon Fabricus has 14 RBI and Josiah Washington 13 to round out the Raiders' top three run producers.

Cody Frazier has been solid defensively at third base and is second in runs scored with 17, along with a .324 batting average.

On the mound, Baldes also leads the way with a 3-1 record, a 3.23 earned-run average and 19 strikeouts, while fellow hurlers Dillon Fabricus and Matt Fisher have recorded a pair of victories apiece.
