Dubois has prided itself on hosting mid-summer festivities that attract visitors from far and wide. In early August of 1974, the Dubois Fire Department hosted weekend events that drew more than 1,200 people.

Rodeo action began Friday night at the Charles Arena, with a second go-round following on Sunday afternoon. On both Saturday and Sunday afternoons, the Albright Trophy Chariot Races were staged on the flat bluff of the Dubois Airport, with a few horse races contested as well.

The big draw was the annual buffalo barbecue at Dubois Town Park. Both buffalo burgers and buffalo steaks were served, with the meat from three bison on hand to feed the throng. The cost per plate was $4 for adults, $2 for kids.
