May 17, 2017 - By Kelli Ameling, Staff WriterAs of Saturday, there now are 51 names on the Wyoming Fallen Firefighter Memorial in Riverton.
And one of them is from Fremont County.
Clarence "Speed" Hartbank is the first Fremont County firefighter to be included in the memorial, which honors firefighters who lost their lives on duty.
Hartbank died in January 2015, about four months after being injured at the scene of a fire in rural Fremont County. The longtime Morton-Kinnear firefighter, chief and district administrator was 79 years old.
Hartbank's family was escorted into the memorial service by a combination of Wyoming fire department honor guards. They walked between two lines of saluting firefighters.
Guest speaker Russell Wenke, Park County Fire Warden, spoke about firefighter bravery. Then, a solemn bell ceremony began, with each fallen firefighter's name read aloud as a bell tolled.
The honor guard placed a wreath on the memorial, and Hartbank's family members placed roses.
The ceremony concluded with a rifle salute by the Wyoming Highway Patrol and a performance of "Taps" and "Amazing Grace.
