Shoshoni Masons give citizenship awards

Aug 3, 2012 Staff

The Masons of Shoshoni awarded four Shoshoni High School seniors with the John Coulthard Citizenship Award and also named an adult citizen of the year.

The students received a plaque naming them "Student Citizen of the Year" and a monetary award of $500.

John Coulthard thought students in school were the people of the future and wanted to help them become the best they could be. High school seniors receive the scholarship based on their personalities and if they have a GPA of 2.0 or higher, are headed to a college, post-secondary or trade school, are working in their field of choice, and are recognized as a good citizens in their schools and communities.

Teachers at Shoshoni High School vote on the students who meet these criteria.

The award ceremony was May 23 at the Wind River Lodge No. 25 in Shoshoni.

Recipients of the scholarships were Dalton Linnan, Golton Gonka, Jessica Pingetzer and Coralee Spratt.

The adult citizen of the year is Bryan Sage.
