Goede picked to fill city council vacancy

May 3, 2017 - By Alejandra Silva, Staff Writer

Lance Goede is the new representative for Ward 2 on the Riverton City Council.

The council interviewed Goede and three other candidates during a meeting Tuesday: Richard Bennett, Rebecca Schatza and Scott Wilcox.

After the interviews, the council went into executive session to review the candidates. The council's selection was determined by a secret vote. Interim Riverton Police Department chief Eric Murphy and interim city administrator Courtney Bohlender counted the ballots.

Goede will fill the vacancy left by Lee Martinez, who died April 7.

"It's an honor to take the position that Lee held here," Goede said after he took his seat on the council.

Goede said he would do his very best to serve his constituents. He plans to stand for re-election when the term is over in 2018.

Goede is the director of student success at Central Wyoming College. He started at CWC 22 years ago as director of housing and later moved on to other positions, including work in the student life and activities departments.

Candidates were asked questions about their backgrounds and their interest in serving on the council. They also were asked to share their thoughts about public service, city government and local issues.
