SageWest reopens Riverton OB unit

Apr 20, 2017 From staff reports

SageWest Health Care announced it will re-open obstretrics services at the Riverton hospital, following a planning process that is expected to take approximately two months. This decision comes after the health system consolidated all OB services to the Lander campus last year.

"Over the past few months, we've thought deeply about how important strong, local OB services are to a healthy community," said Alan Daugherty, the new CEO of SageWest. "After much consideration, we are thrilled to share this decision with our employees, physicians and the community today. It was made with great care, and with the needs of the people we serve at the forefront of our minds."

The work to re-open OB services at the Riverton campus must be done thoughtfully and will take some time to complete, he said. A planning process is underway and will address a variety of factors that must be considered, including staffing and equipment needs, updating systems and processes, training and re-training of staff, and more. This process will take approximately eight to ten weeks to complete. OB services will continue to be provided at the Lander campus during this time, and once OB services are re-opened at the Riverton campus.

"Our decision to re-open OB services in Riverton reflects the strong path we are on for the future, as we work to create a health system that addresses the unique needs of each of our communities," Daugherty said. "We greatly appreciate our dedicated physicians and employees across all service lines, including OB, and our community's understanding and support. We know that together, we can guide our system forward, build on our progress and fulfill our vision for the future."

SageWest said it will share updates as it moves through the planning process to re-open these services in Riverton.
