William Jamison McDonald

William Jamison McDonald, formerly of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, and Hawk Valley, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and living for the last 17 years in Lander, died Wednesday, March 15, 2017.

He was 89 years old.

A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, at the Chapel of Mount Hope in Hudson's Funeral Home.

The interment will take place at the convenience of the family.

Mr. McDonald was a son of the late John and Laura McDonald.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Neff, and a brother, Robert McDonald.

He is survived by a sister, Janet Carlin; daughters Jane McDonald and Meg McDonald; granddaughter, Alicia Forbes; grandson, Christopher Matthews; and two great-grandsons and three great-granddaughters.

He graduated from Downingtown High School in 1947 and attended Villanova University where he received a bachelor's degree in secondary education in 1952.

He married Louise L. Barker in 1952 and was happily married for 42 years until his wife's death in 1994.

In 2000, he married Dorothy Ann Gee. In 2003, he and his wife moved to Lander. Mrs. Mconald died in 2006.

Mr. McDonald taught English in the Great Valley School Districts.

In 1984, he retired from teaching after 32 years in education.

He was chairman of the English department of the Great Valley School District 1968-1984.

He and his wife loved to travel in the United States. He was an avid collector of antiques.

For 25 years, he operated a stand at the Black Angus Antique Center outside of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Hudson's Funeral Home & Crematory.
