Mar 17, 2017 - From staff reportsFour of five students from Fremont County who participated in the Wyoming State Spelling Bee placed in the top 10.
Orion Aronson from Lander Middle School took 3rd after besting fourth place finisher Beckett Lucas-Griffen in a spell off that lasted 16 rounds.
Fremont County residents Brett Jones and Garrett Popkes joined a six-way tie for tenth place while Delaney Shanley joined a three-way tie for ninth place.
Third grader Sakiusa Meador from Sublette County will represent Wyoming at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., after spelling "magnific" correctly to win the spelling bee.
Meador, bested 76 other spellers from 19 counties including his brother Jackie Meador who joined him in the oral round. He made few mistakes in the 50-word written preliminary round, and no mistakes in 13 rounds of oral competition.
Western Wyoming Community College will proudly host the 2018 event.
