Mar 17, 2017 - From staff reportsJoseph Wayne Atkin Sr. died Feb. 21, 2017. He was 33 years old.
He was born July 7, 1983, in Lander, to Mark and LeAnn (Knifer) Atkin.
He grew up and went to school in Lander. He loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping with his oldest son Joe Atkin Jr.
He was a skilled gunsmith and spent time helping others with their firearms.
He is survived by his parents, Mark and LeAnn (Knifer), of Lander; children Joe Jr. of Lander and Braxton, Anessa, Shaylee and Amelia of Yelm, Washington; his special friend, Amber Brown, of Lander; brother, Lewis (Maureen) Atkin, of Baltimore, Maryland; sisters Corinne (Chato Lyday) Atkin of Lander and Erin (Nancy Edwards) Atkin of Russellville, Arkansas; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Knifer of Riverton; uncles Patrick Knifer of Riverton, Larry (Tracey Mahoney) Knifer of Lakewood, Colorado, and Robert Atkin of Hurtsboro, Alabama; aunt, Jennifer Knifer of Lander; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was proceeded in death by his maternal grandfather, Donald Knifer; paternal grandparents, Wayne and Lilalea Atkin; and aunt, Connie Knifer Clarady.
A celebration of life will be 10-11 a.m. March 19 in the Lander Valley High School auditorium.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for help covering costs; an account has been set up at Atlantic City Federal Credit Union.
