Mar 16, 2017 - From staff reportsRiverton was named as a top 25 destination to view the solar eclipse this summer by "Travel + Leisure" magazine, which noted the four-day Arapaho eclipse celebration held by the Wind River Hotel and Casino.
As part of that ceremony, archers will fire arrows at the moon to convince it to get out of the way of the sun.
Businesses in Fremont County, as well as the Wind River Visitor's Council, have been heavily promoted the area as a tourist destination to witness the solar eclipse on August 21.
Some have projected 10,000 people will flock to the county to witness the event, which also has law enforcement and emergency management personnel concerned whether they'll be able to keep up with the demands.
The last time an eclipse passed over Riverton was in 1878.
