Mar 1, 2017 - By Randy Tucker, Staff WriterKayle Addison is the state's leading scorer for the Lady Eagles.
It may be the most-lopsided matchup in the opening round of the state tournament.
The St. Stephen's Lady Eagles enter the opening game at the Casper Events Center as the third seed out of the Class 1-A West after suffering an upset loss to Little Snake River in the opening round of the regional.
The Eagles face the second-seeded Rock River Longhorns.
The differences between the East and West 1-A conferences are stark, with the West having much larger schools and communities as a whole.
Rock River is one of the smallest schools in the state, but it's the five on the floor, not the kids in the hall, that make a basketball team.
Rock River is a balanced offensive team, paced by Lydia Moore (14.8 points per game), Andi Todd (10.6),Taylor Broyles (9.1) and Michelle Bunce (4.8).
The two schools have common opponents in Dubois and Meeteetse. The Longhorns edged Dubois, 29-28, in the opening weekend of the season and beat Meeteetse twice. St. Stephen's put the running clock into play all four times in blowouts against the same teams.
St. Stephen's is a potent offensive team and wins by the biggest margin in the state. The Eagles average 67 points per game and yield only 42.
Rock River plays stellar defense and held opponents to an average of 27 points.
The Eagles are led by the state's leading scoring, Kayle Addison at 21.3 points per game.Trinity Goggles averages 17.1 and is a demon on the defensive boards. Angel Redman scores 9.2, Martina Brown 6.9 and Lyndsay Harris 5.9 points per game.
A win most likely advances the Eagles to a 4:30 p.m. semifinal on Friday at Kelly Walsh against Class 1-A West champion Farson-Eden.
