Coming production of 'Jesus Christ Superstar' tastefully doneFeb 24, 2017 Ronald E. Howard, Riverton
On March 3, 4, 5, 10 and 11 the Central Wyoming College theater department will put on the production of "Jesus Christ Superstar."
Before I go on, let me just say that I'm not representing CWC or the director, Mike Myers, or anyone else.I'm speaking strictly for myself and not representing them at all.
Several people have mentioned that they're leery about this play because they think it might be risqué or notrespectful of the gospels or to the passion itself.
This musical was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice in 1970. It is a rock opera and is very tastefully done and gives complete respect and reverence to the story of the last days of Jesus Christ.
Our lead character, Jesus, is played by my good friend, Ryan Jevne, and Judas is played by another good friend, Amara Fehring.
Both have great pipes and do an amazing job with their parts. The rest of the cast and crew have worked very hard on this production, and it would be a shame to see an empty house on the nights of performance.
I am truly impressed with how this show has come together. This is one of thebest casts I've ever worked with, despite the long hours and late nights we're putting in rehearsing.
The passion is a beautiful story, and this interpretation is also a very beautifulrendition, done by actors with lovely voices.
Anotheraspect of this story that I like is that its message is one of universal love and peacefor mankind; a message thatanyone in this world can appreciate. You don't have to be a Christian to follow the teachings of Jesus. I find that comforting and refreshing.
So, mark these dates in your calendars. Please come support this show. There are a lot of wonderful people behind it.
