"As an officer went to stop the individuals, they fled toward a 2000 silver-colored Dodge Caravan that was in the parking lot," Smith said in a news release. "The officer arrived at the van just as the occupants were trying to gain entry into the van; a brief struggle occurred at the passenger's side door area, and the female driver (Blackbear) placed the vehicle into drive and accelerated forward."

Smith said the van's passenger's side struck the officer, pushing him away from the vehicle.

He said the van entered Federal Boulevard and was northbound. At this time, an officer attempted to stop the vehicle by activating his lights and siren.

"The driver continued to travel north on Federal Boulevard to Honor Farm Road where the vehicle turned east," Smith said. "The vehicle then traveled to a trailer park located on the east end of Honor Farm (Road) and the occupants fled on foot."

Smith said Blackbear was immediately captured, and her passenger, Christensen, a few minutes later after he entered a residence in the area unlawfully in an "attempt to hide from police."
