Kenneth Dale Carey, 82, died Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at his home in Lander.

A viewing was Sunday, June 10, at Hudson's Funeral Home in Lander. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at the Douglas Cemetery.

Kenneth Dale Carey was born June 1, 1930, at his family's rural home in Wheatland. He was the son of Mary Etta (Goebel) Carey and Ralph Wesley Carey.

He worked on the family's dry-land farm and was educated in Wheatland where he met his future wife, Betty Mae Sherwood. They were married March 20, 1953.

The family moved from Wheatland to California and later back to Wyoming and finally settled in Douglas. Mr. Carey had several occupations over the years, including being a radio and television announcer, farmer, mechanic and truck driver, but he was most remembered for his 35 years with Napa Auto Parts in Douglas, where he worked until his retirement. He moved to Lander in 1999.

His family said Mr. Carey enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, working on engines and cars, and eating ice cream. He and his wife Betty were the inspiration for Ken and Betty's Ice Cream Shop.

Mr. Carey is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty; sons David and his wife Becky of Henderson, Nev., and Dan and his wife Gina of Lander, Doug and his wife Janet of Casper and John of Douglas; daughter Mary Hopper and her husband Randy of Casper; nine grandchildren; and soon-to-be 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Arrangements are through Hudson's Funeral Home ( of Lander.
