Jun 22, 2012 - StaffShirley M. "Grandma" Farwell, 86, died Sunday, June 3, 2012, at her home in Lander.
Cremation has taken place, and there will be family memorial services.
Shirley May Buttner was born March 16, 1926, in Lead, S.D., the daughter of Robert Lewis Buttner and Aili E. Buttner (Rauvala.) She grew up in Lead, S.D., and attended schools there.
Mrs. Farwell was a homemaker, having married Roy Nicholas Farwell on June 5, 1943, in Lead, S.D.
She was of the Lutheran faith.
Mrs. Farwell had lived in Lander since September 1998. Earlier, she had lived in Deadwood, S.D., in Casper, in Shirley Basin from 1973 to 1985, and Osage from 1985 to 1998.
Her family said Mrs. Farwell was a babysitter in addition to being a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
They said she enjoyed her family, baking, art, drawing, her yard, family pets, collecting recipes, collecting ceramic roosters, watching and collecting birds and owls, and loved to wear beautiful pins.
She is survived by sons, Larry Farwell and David Farwell; daughters Sharon Sterna, Judy Farwell and Christy Klinghagen; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Louis Buttner and Aili E. Rauvala; grandparents Hilma and Tytier Rauvala; her husband, Roy Nicholas Farwell in March 2000; a sister, Lois Buttner Bowdish, and a son-in-law, Larry "Hoss" Klinghagen.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Funeral Home of Riverton.
