Former Lander resident Terry Lynn Bright, 71, died suddenly Saturday, June 9, at his home in Thermopolis. A memorial picnic will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at Hot Springs State Park in Thermopolis. Memorials in Mr. Bright's name may be made to the Masons or the VFW, c/o Chandra Nettles, 1226 E. Richard D. "Dick" Ferris Sr., 73, died Thursday, June 14, after a battle with cancer. Traditional Indian funeral services were Monday, June 18, at Rocky Mountain Hall at Fort Washakie. Interment was at the LeClair Family Cemetery at Kinnear. An evening service and wake were Sunday at the family home, No. 7 South Fork Road on the Wind River Indian Reservation.


Memorial services for Charlynn M. Heidekrueger, 48, were Tuesday at the Set Free Church in Riverton. Ms. Heidekrueger died Saturday, May 26, at her home in Pavillion.


Shelia Hettinger, 85, of Riverton died Monday, June 11, in Redmond, Ore. The Hettinger family plans a service later this summer in Riverton.

Community calendar


53rd Annual Eastern Shoshone Indian Days & Rodeo Celebration is June 21 to June 24. This is a traditional Native American Powwow located near Fort Washakie on the Wind River Indian Reservation. This Powwow has been designated as one of the 2012 Top 100 Events in North America by The American Bus Association.

Third Annual High Country Challenge is at 7 a.m. at the Dubois Town Park in Dubois. There will be a 5K fun run/walk, 10K run, 15K run and 1K fun run/walk. All children 17 and under are free. Check-in/registration begins at 7 a.m. at the Dubois Town Park. Registration is $20 to enter up until and $25 the day of the race. Registration forms are available at the Lander Chamber of Commerce, 160 N. First St.

2012 Carol Parker Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament is at 8 a.m. June 23. This two-player best ball contest will start daily at 8 a.m. shotgun. The fee is $70 per player with $35 more to rent a cart. Entry includes a dinner at the banquet June 23. Register at the Lander Golf Course or Lander Elks Lodge.

Wyoming Outdoor Council's 45th Anniversary Celebration is at 8 a.m. at the Lander Community Center, 950 Buena Vista Drive, Lander. The celebration will kick off with the Wild and Scenic Film Festival on Thursday and Friday and will continue with outings and presentations throughout the weekend, culminating Saturday night with dinner, a keynote speaker and live music. Authentic "Cowboy Campfire" is at 6 p.m. at Louis Lake Lodge, 1811 Louis Lake Road, Lander. These Saturday evening activities feature cowboys reciting poetry, telling stories, playing music, making people laugh and cooking food. Wesley Wiginton, cowboy poet, to perform. Tickets are $25 for a full dinner of western fare and entertainment or $10 for campfire entertainment. Dinner starts at about 6 p.m. with entertainment kicking in around 7 p.m. The fun should wrap up around 9 or 9:30 p.m. The events will happen every other Saturday through the summer: July 7, July 21, Aug. 4, Aug. 18 and Sept. 1.

In Riverton police reports from Wednesday to Thursday morning:

- Michael Cousineau, 33, of Riverton, was arrested on a Fremont County warrant.

In Fremont County Sheriff's reports from Wednesday to Thursday morning:

- Epitacio Mcsweeney, 21, of Riverton, was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) and interference.

- Kevin Swofford, 40, of Dubois, was arrested for DUI.

- During the same time frame, ambulance units responded to 10 calls and firefighters were dispatched once.
