Ralph Petersen

Former Fremont County resident Ralph Petersen, 87, of Laramie, died Saturday, May 12, 2012, at the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colo.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, at the Albany County Fairgrounds with the pastor David Grace officiating. Interment will follow in Harmony Cemetery with military rites by the Laramie Veterans Honor Guard and the Wyoming National Guard.

Visitation is 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, at Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home in Laramie.

Ralph Petersen was born March 25, 1925, in North Loup, Neb., the son of Louis H. and Martha (Jorgensen) Petersen. He graduated from high school there.

He entered the U.S. Army in April 1945 and served with the 59th Ordnance Ammunition Company, being discharged in November 1946.

Upon his return, he went to work for the Bureau of Reclamation, got his pilot's license and flew mail for the government.

He married Rosella Mae Justice on March 15, 1952, in Kinnear, and the couple lived all over Wyoming as he worked for White Ditching Co. putting in gas lines throughout the state. In 1974 he went to work for Northern Gas (KN Energy) and moved to Laramie. He retired from the gas company in 1987 and started Ralph's Backhoe Service, which he was still operating at the time of his death.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 390, a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2221 and was captain of the Eppson Senior Center cribbage team and loved playing cribbage.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Debra Carmell; his brothers, Earl and Lyle Petersen and Gordon Honeycutt, and a sister, Louise Mariner.

He is survived by his wife, Rosella Mae Peterson; a daughter, Patricia Ann Ackerson and her husband James; a son, Roy Allen Petersen and his wife Kathy, all of Laramie; brothers Arthur Honeycutt of Riverton and Kenneth Honeycutt of Carlin, Nev.; sisters Dessie Holiday and her husband Herb, and Carol Ferguson and her husband Max, all of Riverton, and Carolyn Clark and her husband Wilmer of Reedley, Calif.; six grandchildren, Anna-Marie Halsey and her husband Randall, James Ralph Ackerson and his wife Tammy, Shannon Dale Petersen, Morgan Allen Petersen, Danielle LeAnn Petersen and Augusta Soltman; two great-grandchildren, Dorian Ackerson and Kayleigh Petersen, all of Laramie.

Memorials may be made to the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 390, 409 S. Third St., Laramie, WY 82070, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2221, 2142 E. Garfield St., Laramie, WY 82070 or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Services are under the direction of Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home.
