Henry M. "Hank" Gabel, 67, of Lander, died Monday, April 23, 2012, at the Help for Health Hospice Home in Riverton.
According to his wishes, there will be no services.
Henry Michael Gabel was born Oct. 28, 1944, in Sidney, Mont., the son of Conrad and Lydia (Bieber) Gabel. He grew up on a farm at Savage, Mont., attending school in Savage.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged May 22, 1962, as an E-1.
Mr. Gabel worked as a surveyor in the energy industry. He worked from Montana to Texas and back, following the oil boom. He founded Straight Line Inc.
He worked in many Midwestern states and on the sugar beet farms of the Worland area until retiring from that in his mid-50s.
He settled in Lander in 2006.
Mr. Gabel was married to Terra Wagner on June 10, 1967, in Savage. Two daughters were born to that union. They divorced in 1985.
His family said Mr. Gabel enjoyed being outdoors, going fishing, prospecting for gold, going for drives, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include two daughters, Carrie Lefforge and husband Steve of Riverton, and Michelle Parker of Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandchildren Coale Gabel, McKenzie Becker and husband Ty, Sky Lefforge, Sydni Parker, Taelor Parker, Johnny Montoya, Molly Montoya, and Mia Montoya; a sister, Alma Schmierer of Billings, Mont.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Monte and Har-old; sisters Irene "Tootsie" Stordahl and Edna Hoon; a twin brother at birth.
