RHS activities director on administrative leave; board action may follow

May 4, 2012 By Craig Blumenshine, Staff Writer

Keith Bauder, a longtime Fremont County high school teacher, coach and current activities director at Riverton High School, has been placed on paid administrative leave according to Terry Snyder, Fremont County School District 25 superintendent.

Snyder confirmed Friday morning that Bauder was placed on administrative leave Monday.

"It is a personnel issue that we are working through presently. I think we'll have it resolved very shortly. There will be a recommendation to the (school) board next Tuesday," Snyder said.

A message left for Bauder Friday morning by The Ranger was not returned before press time.

When asked whether other agencies were assisting with any investigation or whether Snyder perceived that criminal charges could be a potential outcome, Snyder responded, "No."

Riverton High School is scheduled to host the Class 4-A West regional track meet beginning next Friday and Saturday, May 11 and 12.

Snyder said Bauder still is the activities director at Riverton High School, but "Tim Bell is the individual who now is responsible for those activities."

Snyder added that RHS principal Joanne Flanagan and assistant principal John Griffith are assisting Bell.

Bell, in April, moved into the position as assistant activities director for the rest of this school year to fill a vacancy in that position and continues to handle Riverton Middle School activities according to District 25 personnel officer Karen Wardner.

Snyder, when asked whether he believed Bauder would be the RHS activities director next year, responded, "I can't speak to that at this moment. Other individuals need to be involved in that decision."

Bauder has worked at Riverton High School since 1994 when he came to RHS as an automotive instructor at the James H. Moore Career Center.

During his Riverton tenure, Bauder has coached football, wrestling and track as an assistant and was the RHS head wrestling coach for 10 seasons beginning in 1995. Bauder was named Riverton's activities director in 2003 and is the current Wyoming Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association activities director of the year.
